2 J* a* J: x+ H# TAn Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
5 V4 I+ e8 N. t% XA police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.% ?3 `/ q# o' d) x( J+ Y$ }
Police say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.& C, Q/ {* Z" n! c' _
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."0 [7 U& _# @% E% q+ j9 S
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
