“In September 2011 Archbishop Joseph MacNeil School is hoping to begin offering a Chinese Language and Culture program beginning in grade 7.  The program will expand to include an additional grade each year culminating in Chinese Language and Culture 30 at Mother Margaret Mary High School.  Students who take the full 6 years of the program would finish with Chinese Language and Culture 30-6Y (the 6Y defining the length of study).
In junior high Chinese 7, 8, and 9 would be taught three times in a six day cycle, which is consistent with all second language courses in junior high, and in high school Chinese 10-6Y, 20-6Y and 30-6Y would be taught as a full courses, six blocks per week for one semester. Chinese Language and Culture 30 can be used as an entrance requirement for many faculties at universities as well as part of the Rutherford Scholarship requirement and for high school completion.
6 a6 I  A- O9 H" K" T# {. y' tIn order to begin offering this sequence of courses from grade 7-12, we require a minimum of 25 grade 7 students commit to the program.  On the reverse of this letter is a sheet for parents to complete from which we will determine if there is enough interest in the program to initiate it in September 2011.
% F; N6 u4 u3 f# v$ j( U7 KThis letter is being distributed through the schools to all the grade 6 families of St. Mary, Monsignor William Irwin and Archbishop Joseph MacNeil.  We require the completed forms from all committed parents to be returned to the office of Archbishop Joseph MacNeil (either by delivering them directly to the school or to the office of St. Mary or Mon Irwin) before March 11th.  A decision on the program will be made and parents notified before March 25th.
