T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
& x2 Y7 F, L3 `6 W: vAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering ; j& f  @; e' s. f' t/ N
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
. A6 ^- z0 O# V+ Q/ p6 Vinterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, " [/ `" K* z0 H! ?) ^* k
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

" m: R  H$ M: X6 B4 b* iWhat will take place in the sessions?
/ h* }9 F+ w# l9 L7 G( |$ PEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

3 {' a8 p# m' m6 BThese activities will enable youth to:4 F5 q' J8 w2 S8 T+ P
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
. j; s+ A( J! a# p9 A5 B Learn how to access community services and programs! y/ t" e! P5 \1 A# z  s7 d
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills$ X4 c  i6 Z. @% D
 Identify personal leadership strengths …  u4 |1 L" R1 S7 x  r4 j

Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
1 a4 F; x6 N% ^4 `; p% X2 PSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily! O5 M) B' n8 z( a" O
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily6 z3 [# a5 b- K8 ^& c4 L

+ T: f; v2 [9 J" Y. J7 }' xWho can participate?& i1 Q  j: K/ U! y* |; a
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.

What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
' ]8 x* e% J6 r! u. Z  {3 IIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

# ?4 S  \) E& K1 a" [* _Volunteer’s Duties:; [; o. M& C6 ^# U
% L4 {, d1 O+ F% {
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies 2 s* q  W& u: n, n* m$ V0 O$ a
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
( J. \' J# [5 A5 U8 Y% t Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities! C; X8 u; d3 v' Z+ }, r
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
5 t9 ~) G3 i3 @" ` Research activities related to the sessions’ topic+ s  ]) }1 z; `
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
8 \+ T( i4 J) r' j0 J  [1 n) V Assist in program planning
4 \- @. G' `& p4 y8 A0 J! p Be a role model4 p1 C( S8 j+ N" D1 @

Volunteer Commitment:* O# p" M9 x/ U5 @

) H* c. K7 S6 F  F On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)* Q: d' I. r" {
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
! n$ f+ i* M' \; p$ \3 v7 G0 }% y; i6 r' y  m% d; r

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator7 r0 d( V- T- J. q) J- C
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program2 E1 T0 V9 Q/ p9 m* o4 E# H! G
 A team player
  u" f  d! _3 l9 F* x$ v/ G! s  |( } Able to work independently with minimum supervision4 d' M0 p6 N1 C- E( e0 g# E
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
" p: c; |4 D7 b+ D! [. ] Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
