They retired now and just live two blocks from my house. Three Chinese restaurants were bad, but I got all my money back. First they tried to find out if I had a family in Edmonton. After they found out I was alone here, they started to show the real face to me.
) V& a/ n2 @& h: ~- ~First restaurant in westend, I was hired as a waitress, but, she wanted me to do all cleaning work except for serving customer. I worked 4 hours without tip and I quit that night. She did not pay me at first. After four phone calls and one visit by person, she still tried to not pay me. First excuse was I would get paid by end of two weeks. The excuse was she did not have time to write a cheque. Finally, I said if you do not pay me now, I would report it to the labor board. Then she said I could come to pick up my cheque tomorrow. Fine, I went next day and picked up the cheque. N0 H4 Q- C, {$ ?/ ], @9 o {# k$ N
Second restaurant in St. Albert, I worked for two months (2 nights a week). First month, they paid me the full amount. We got along good, and the tip was good too. I was very happy, so I opened up myself to them, then they knew I was alone in Edmonton. They started to accuse me the money was short and did not pay me in full amount. Because the end of my shift, I always balanced my orders and bills, and submit a total amount, and wanted a receipt with signature back. In this way, they could not accuse me about the money shortage issue. (If you are a cashier, the boss could not ask you to pay the shortage back without the evident you steal the money. Please check the labor law for accuracy). After that, they tried to pay me in less hours. I called them, first they denied. I said I recorded all my hours, you made a mistake, you'd better to pay me in full. Finally, they said you come to pick up the cheque on Monday., ^/ Z, E5 C) k8 q2 g2 m
Third restaurant, they tried the same method first. After I insisted they had to pay me in full, otherwise, I would go to the labor board. Right way, they paid me in full. K5 R G! f8 |9 p$ R1 V4 ^
The second and third restaurants were closed down for good. The first one still owns a few restaurants. ' U3 e2 ?# O$ d$ s
When someone crosses the line, please stand up for yourself, but to be smart. No violence involved, including verbal and body language. Collecting evident is very important, and then go to labor board. Tried to get paid bi-week instead of a month.
