T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
4 e9 T. k1 E8 r' h; S7 q% n* hAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 7 X4 L% [8 o* ~8 r8 s, u
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on & C3 T6 S6 T6 ~% X0 ?. b% V
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
4 u/ y; M, P, ?" E. Tand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.6 I# [" {& ^; N" B6 r; @

What will take place in the sessions?0 V0 {* |/ @7 f# ]* x! W
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.
; h& d0 F" t' |: R0 B: ~+ y! [9 P, L
These activities will enable youth to:6 K' k1 s$ V! L1 I3 E
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation  N4 t5 N# ^, d5 V3 c
 Learn how to access community services and programs
( J  ?: m# O% B! E. ] Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills2 r6 Q5 B0 i, {: k8 f
 Identify personal leadership strengths …

; h/ y1 ^7 A/ oProgram Schedule:
' b# G9 t# `8 T7 u9 K" cRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.# _3 }- z# `& |* s4 J) ?  H  ^
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily& j7 \; M: H7 w& p, W: w! k6 I
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily5 {2 k2 b% B- @! x$ U, D( B2 r

) Z- F2 D( x$ X7 {Who can participate?
, H6 q+ }- h& m5 @( C, \, dAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
# \+ b* x, }- r! T% Q3 W' R. m% r: T. s2 P+ \' y/ G3 \4 E
What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
/ x" w7 ^3 A* [) ]4 e6 C7 IIt is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.+ i0 k. u; {& J
. L% B3 l7 C) L; {! O

4 \. \0 b  V6 v! P7 y: YVolunteer’s Duties:
$ c2 Z; R, H0 c& z+ r4 G4 I: G/ A% o, m- i7 R$ n" |1 e
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
* t, n6 U$ R0 ?- q Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development 2 H: i0 a  G" o+ A
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities7 @( h/ c( E* w! Q5 m+ D
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
: Y( X" T. C/ n1 G Research activities related to the sessions’ topic) t2 S+ y2 L) i& L+ z! m! f% z
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips( v% n; ]5 {  M" J% n: @+ S6 ?0 S0 \
 Assist in program planning5 Y6 O& q* C; F, v& ~$ H- A
 Be a role model1 J* {% F/ R# U; V) z2 |$ H8 @3 C; _

5 s; A/ `- g* s1 I3 U3 S4 T. ]Volunteer Commitment:, m0 [2 n4 o" W; M* ~6 W
8 E: b% m$ X2 ]- C2 M. c
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
* C8 R6 q# b9 Z& @ One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
# h( y9 S* \: l' Q( I- ~$ ?
6 z2 g8 n1 v5 }Attitude/Skills Requirements:: D# ?+ S7 K7 ~  T: F) ?

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator* ~/ r& S6 a' F0 ~
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
/ k8 I% \4 V: w( G- N, T A team player5 a: r/ ?5 K: K. s8 {/ w
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision
' k; H( v+ U. \7 Z Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
/ K5 I: u3 B" f1 A+ C- q Willing to work with youth including youth at risk; K* d+ n( k3 \! R( ]
. l) w0 v# e4 l/ O' q2 s
