T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip * a. t4 H2 ~+ L* Z% \# b9 V# p
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering , ?* {8 {2 X3 q
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on ! Y! a  m. v. M! P! Y
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, - H, I6 c& f& ?2 C; T1 S
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation./ ]; P- O9 j; i6 }

9 X& x7 W; p, a" rThese activities will enable youth to:, F) \8 D0 z0 I$ p7 N( ]! X
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
; d/ ?- k2 V) S$ K Learn how to access community services and programs0 }9 i, L* L2 O7 t
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills

Program Schedule:# \) k6 _. U: E9 K6 S% _
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.2 Z6 k  T7 w. r0 X) X" ^
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily9 ]/ |1 l/ \5 I) }* T3 |
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily

* `) M2 W4 r. f' e$ qWho can participate?0 a) }% F) f, ^" L7 B6 D* T
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.

What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?! @3 A" J% M9 W3 h  H( w* x: O
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.$ w. f: C# P$ m: j, c* P
3 B3 G' V1 D! t( S2 C; Q3 A6 i- }
9 _+ K! [' Q( ~/ i! V) h" ^2 V
Volunteer’s Duties:
- ^5 l! Y* U& Z& J' s% V+ Z% f$ A) j$ ?+ Q2 A) a: U" e# w* G" o7 R
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies ( E' d, Y  [6 ]( _
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
( ~) ^4 U  ]$ S, s6 d Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities( g) m$ v8 u2 h. \2 _
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
1 C+ C5 h& G- E4 a9 z# I6 ? Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
& S% A  m( Z' i  I6 z/ D Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips* Y! e$ e, R0 l$ T
 Assist in program planning; y% I2 s4 M; r2 f
 Be a role model. B! T3 p# N6 E
( k! L4 X5 n0 A/ G8 T
Volunteer Commitment:+ ^1 @  @8 F. L! C8 m! y+ a* X8 l
& S% Q# c* d. M# b
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)% a! }+ x  ~" s+ F1 H
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer( b! e8 Z+ r. r0 {$ ^( o

! b: g4 E' }- D- E8 L% o' KAttitude/Skills Requirements:( _. z* Z5 v) M: S& z
8 b# n, h& a7 b/ H9 P; q
 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator( R1 E2 X5 g  Z9 W
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
2 E- ]$ V+ F; P1 H A team player( H, h9 l0 h" w  _# L
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision0 N3 Y6 m+ I9 V( w6 S% R9 [
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
" l# c( ]3 L  o; f# ^ Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
