Responsibilities and Tasks' B! {2 H) q0 \0 f/ s
! Y* m `" d8 U; X7 _4 I- Connect piping systems to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors and control equipment
6 p+ a: w- `% e% b0 F- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints and specifications furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to determine layout requirements
8 W+ c6 z1 b- }0 b8 b7 w5 Z- Cut openings for pipe in walls, floors and ceilings using hand or power tools or machines
% S5 D, D; c( S" K, Y+ f! G3 `, e- Select type and size of pipe required1 q' Y, Z/ t: u: u# y3 f8 M
- Measure, cut, thread and bend pipe to required shape using hand and power tools: u$ }- w1 i8 \# K! e
- Weld, braze, cement, solder and thread joints to join pipes and fabricate sections of piping system$ T& C* Y Q( x/ L7 w- e. {$ ?
- Install supports, valves, piping and control systems* W- y) {! a% d/ {" ~4 J- J% z
- Test system for leaks using testing equipment
) [; R8 r k/ ^( q' K- Clean and maintain pipe units and fittings and flush system1 P7 B& R7 ]+ m6 A* ~% _
- Remove and replace worn components and reactivate system

- Completion of secondary school
4 b* H- l- ]# Y0 X- Completion of formal Apprenticeship Program of four- to five-years or a combination of over five years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in pipefitting system installation 3 {6 h M& K9 t+ V" _( l: {* B
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

1 Q/ L( m9 X: U/ t/ S- Pipefitter trade certification is considered an asset
; l: ` t- x- t% t- Safety tickets are considered an asset
